Spring Virtual Storytimes for Children
The Nicholson Memorial Library System announces Spring Storytimes for children and families, January 13 through May 1, 2021.
Wee Read (birth to 18 mos.) Wednesdays, 10:30 a.m.
Toddler Storytime (18-36 mos.) Fridays, 10:30 a.m.
Preschool Storytime (3-5 yrs.) *Saturdays, 10:30 a.m.
All storytimes will be presented in Facebook Live. Please be aware that photographs and video may be taken at Library programs for use in print and/or electronic media at the Library’s discretion. For more information, please call 972-205-2516.

Winter Reading Challenge
Dec. 13, 2020 - Jan. 9, 2021
Children ages 0-17 can participate in the Garland Library's Winter Reading Challenge! Complete five hours of reading and two activities in the reading log. Receive badges if you log your progress in Beanstack. All participants may pick up a prize bag at any Garland Library after they complete the log.

A paper log can be downloaded or picked up at any Garland Library.
You can also log your reading hours in-person or over the phone. Please log all your hours by Jan. 9, 2021.

Art Explorers: Perspective Drawing
Learn about one point perspective drawing and then make your own holiday road trip perspective drawing.
1,000 Books Before Kindergarten
1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is an initiative from the 1000 Books Foundation that encourages children to read or be read ONE THOUSAND books before beginning Kindergarten. In as little as 15 minutes a day, families can work toward this goal and help their children to build the skills needed for future school and life success. Babies, Toddler, and Preschoolers ages 0 to 6 are welcome to participate in this ongoing program.

Once your child has completed a log, bring it to the Children’s Desk at any of our libraries to receive a prize and the next reading log.
Programs and events for junior high and high school age kids. Regular events include gaming parties.
Teen Advisory Board
Teens ages 13 to 17 can make a difference in their community by joining the Garland Library Teen Advisory Board. Teens will discuss how the library can serve their age group in terms of events, materials, and services. Participants will receive volunteer hours for attending.

Please call and register to receive the Zoom invite. In addition to helping improve library service to teens, serving on the Advisory Board allows teens to socialize with their peers. Teens who apply for board membership need parental consent and must attend two consecutive meetings and a total of eight meetings per year to officially serve as members.

HOLIDAY MAKER FEST
Reverse Canvas Holiday Art
Make a decorative piece of holiday art by removing a canvas from its frame, painting the frame, and constructing a holiday tree with ribbon. Glue the canvas back on to the frame to complete the craft.
Supplies needed:
Canvas
Paint & paintbrush
Utility knife
Piece of wood
Assorted ribbon
Pipe cleaners
Hot glue gun & sticks
Macrame Snowflakes
Learn how to construct basic macramé knots and use the technique to make a snowflake ornament.
Supplies:
Scissors
1mm—3mm cotton cord (color of your choosing)
A metal or wooden ring (any size of your choosing. I’ll be using a 2 inch ring)
Tape (optional)
Straight Pins (optional)
Mason Jar Ring Wreath Ornaments
Learn how to make wreath ornaments using Mason jar lids, pine rope, hot glue and buttons. It's super easy!
Supplies:
Scissors
Buttons
Mason jar lid ring
Twine (about 10 inches)
Pine rope (about 2 feet)
Glue gun
