In 1974 Lee Brumit, a talented machinist, was producing precision manufacturing designs created by NASA scientists at the University of Texas at Dallas. An opportunity arose to begin something of his own so he borrowed $1,100 from a local Garland bank, purchased a used machine to place in his garage, and thus a business was born. KARLEE incorporated in 1977 and soon after JoAnn Brumit, the CEO, came on board to assist with finance and business strategy. From this union a partnership in life and business was created. For over 35 years, Garland has been the home of KARLEE’s corporate headquarters.
When JoAnn had the opportunity to engage with KARLEE, it was the fulfillment of a dream. A dream to build an entity that would make a difference; that would create strategic partnerships and relationships in the community of Garland. “In God We Trust" would be their foundation. KARLEE’s behaviors would be based on Christian ethics and their vision would be to lead rather than follow.

KARLEE grew into a multimillion dollar Contract Manufacturing Solutions Provider, and in 2000 they received the prestigious Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award presented by the President of the United States. During that same year, KARLEE achieved revenues of $80 million and employed over 500 team members. Their core processes include precision 5-axis machining, sheet metal fabrication and assembly & integration of metal products. Additional processes include plating and wet & powder coat painting. To support business solutions, KARLEE offers a full range of services from e-business to total supply chain management, prototyping, and concurrent engineering.
These same processes which received recognition as a best practice are also what saved KARLEE during the “dotcom crash” of 2000 and 2001. While many organizations across the nation and around the world suffered losses and were forced to close their doors, KARLEE persevered and remained steadfast in their commitment to performance excellence and Christian ethics and values. Today, thanks to those processes and values as well as support from the community, KARLEE has regained its position as an industry leader and is now experiencing robust growth. Through KARLEE’s involvement with the Garland Chamber of Commerce and its multitude of partnership opportunities, their recent expansion into new regions and markets has helped to continue to set them apart from the competition and assures future growth to come.
