Atlas Copco is an industrial group with world-leading positions in compressors, expanders and air treatment systems, construction and mining equipment, power tools and assembly systems. With innovative products and services, Atlas Copco delivers solutions for sustainable productivity. The company was founded in 1873, is based in Stockholm, Sweden, and has a global reach spanning more than 170 countries.
Atlas Copco Drilling Solutions is a division within Atlas Copco’s Mining and Rock Excavation Technique business area. It develops, manufactures, and markets a wide range of rotary drilling equipment for use in surface mining, exploration, construction, water well, aggregate, and shallow oil and gas applications worldwide. The divisional headquarters and main production center are located in Garland, Texas, USA.
Drilling Solutions was acquired from Ingersoll Rand in July, 2004. Since then, Atlas Copco has re-built the facility, expanded its customer base on a global scale, and does everything in its power to meet safety and environmental standards. Atlas Copco Drilling Solutions has manufacturing facilities in Nashik, India and Nanjing, China in addition to Garland. Those facilities opened in 2007 and 2008 respectively.
Shortly after purchasing Drilling Solutions from Ingersoll Rand, Atlas Copco discovered that the existing shared warehouse facility was not in line with the company’s customer core values of commitment, innovation and interaction. The facility contained both manufacturing and aftermarket support under one roof, which led to inaccurate inventory levels that put pressure on the Drilling Solutions equipment dealers to stock additional parts due to a lack of confidence in the on-screen inventory numbers.
Atlas Copco immediately took action to improve aftermarket support. At the heart of the transition was to change the employees’ philosophy to think in terms of the customer. Multiple teams dedicated only to parts distribution were created including: purchasing, traffic and customs, international and domestic customer service, and a 24/7 on-call service. In total, Atlas Copco made a $3 million investment in aftermarket support, and the 81,000 square foot facility has been in operation since 2006.
In total, Atlas Copco Drilling Solutions LLC employs over 400 people at the Garland factory and the Distribution Center. In 2014, Atlas Copco had 44,000 employees worldwide with revenues of approximately $12 billion. To learn more visit www.atlascopco.com.
